Training Coordinators

PEACE CORPS MOROCCO

The United States Peace Corps is seeking two individuals as Programming and Training (P&T) Assistant who will also serve as on-site Training Coordinator for a 9 week ‘Pre-service training’ (PST) conducted once a year at a regionally-based site. Under the supervision of the Country Director, the P&T Assistant will provide direct support for American Peace Corps Volunteers living and working in communities around Morocco and coordinate the overall planning, implementation and evaluation of language, cross cultural and community entry and appraisal skills training and acquisition by Peace Corps Trainees and Volunteers.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides appropriate levels of supervision and guidance to American Peace Corps Volunteers to support and ensure adjustment, effectiveness, maintenance of health and well-being and safety and security during 2 years of service.
• Assists Program staff to prepare communities for placement of new Volunteers, including identifying and orienting a “home-stay” family in each work site.
• Maintains effective communications with Volunteers in the field, including visiting Volunteers in their assigned communities, to assist and facilitate their community “entry and integration” including locating and procuring suitable housing, establishing productive relationships and enhancing language proficiency and cultural adaptation.
• Trains, supports and oversees a team of 5-7 PST Language and Cross-Cultural Facilitators (LCF) who provide direct language and cross-cultural training to Trainees.
• Under the direction of the Training Manager, plans and conducts a thorough and extensive Training of Trainers (TOT) prior to each PST for all LCFs.
• With LCFs, develops a PST language and cross culture training schedule and curriculum, including defining learning objectives and developing a plan for session designs, activities, and assignments that incorporate appropriate adult learning methods and techniques that support differentiated learning styles and abilities.
• Evaluates Trainees’ language acquisition; helps new PCVs identify their individual learning needs; and, provides support in locating and training on-site language tutors for PCVs at their assigned sites.
• As PST Training Coordinator, participates in initial planning of a 9 week PST training program; is responsible for all pre-training site preparations and organization; and, serves for the duration of the PST as the on-site manager, coordinator, facilitator and monitor.
• Coordinates with a Homestay Coordinator (HC) to plan for and oversee Trainees’ PST homestay experiences at community-based training sites and the 2 month post-PST homestay in the assigned community.
• Works with Program and Training Officer, Training Manager, Administrative Officer and other involved staff to compile all budget and logistical support considerations for each PST; procures and manages all training equipment, materials and supplies; and coordinates all PST on-site logistics.

Skills

• University degree or equivalent in relevant field (Linguistics, English).
• Strong language ability in English. Fluent in French, Arabic and at least one Berber Dialect (Tamazight or Tashelheit).
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of Moroccan history and culture, including its particularities and diversity.
• Excellent organizational, administrative, managerial and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient using computers and MS Office tools (Word, Excel and Power Point).
• Exceptional familiarity with Americans and American culture and values a plus.
• Ability to travel in Morocco and live away from home at a designated training site for at least 9 weeks each year.
